The new Lancia Delta has been assigned the coveted Euro NCAP five-star award, earning a place at the top of the safety league tables. The European New Car Assessment Programme has assessed the passive safety of the Lancia Delta carrying out specific controls during 15,000 hours of calculations, with 150 simulations with HyGe sled and 100 tests on components and subsystems and no less than 80 crash tests, taking into account all types of accidents: frontal and side impacts, overturning and nose-to-tail crashes. The Lancia Delta achieved excellent results, thus confirming the scrupulous attention to safety that has always characterised Lancia products and the all-round commitment of Fiat Automobiles (in the photo: Olivier Francois, Lancia CEO). The Lancia Delta safety system comprises 6 airbags (front, window-bag and sidebags, all standard on the entire range), 3-point safety belts with double pretensioners and load limiters, 5 head restraints, FPS (fire prevention system) and Isofix attachments on the side rear seats, and the contribution to safety provided by the bodywork, hood, dashboard cross-member, doors, seats and sub-cross-member area. Behaviour of the vehicle on the road also complies with all safety regulations, adopting high tech systems that help the driver in critical situations. In addition to a top flight braking system, the Delta also features state-of-the-art electronic devices for control of vehicle dynamic behaviour, from braking to traction: ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) and ESP (Absolute Handling System) which is activated in near-limit conditions and helps the driver control the car in the case of instability. The Absolute Handling System fitted on the Lancia Delta is of the highly advanced type as it introduces various important functions such as LTF (Linearization Torque Feedback) and TTC (Torque Transfer Control) which cuts in discreetly, working together with DST (Drive Steering Torque), the ‘active electronic steering’ that automatically corrects and controls oversteering on low-grip surfaces.
The automotive scene has a new star, the Lancia Delta.
