24 September, Yacht Club de Monaco: the final Lancia Delta Yacht Design Concept designs occupied pride of place at a prestigious award ceremony presided over by Lorenzo Ramaciotti - Fiat Group Automobiles and Maserati Style Manager - and Olivier Francois - Managing Director of Lancia Automobiles and Fiat Group Automobiles Brand Marketing Communication Manager – who stated “[…] Our recent partnership with the Yacht Club de Monaco and other initiatives have strengthened Lancia's links with the style and world of yachting. Certain details of the Delta, such as its flying bridge, are inspired by this theme. […] The Lancia Delta Yacht Design Concept has above all inspired some fine ideas to the benefit of automotive style and nautical style as well. I would not be surprised to see a new Lancia model taking shape from this design ensemble”.
More than 150 guests including Leonardo Ferragamo (President of Nautor’s Group), Fabio Perini (President of Perini Navy Group), Vincenzo Poerio (Managing Director of Benetti), Maurizio Cei (Managing Director of Baglietto Group) and Giovanna Vitelli of Benetti-Azimut.
The brief for the brainstorming session, which was developed in Turin during a round table meeting held at the Lancia Style Centre and is the outcome of a joint venture between the automotive company Lancia Automobiles and the magazine Yacht Design - published by Hachette Lifestyle Media – was to reinterpret the new Lancia Delta from a nautical point of view, with five innovative designs. The working team was chaired by Matteo Zaccagnino (editor of the magazine Yacht Design), Augusto Capitanucci (Yacht Club de Monaco and editor of Watch Digest published by Hachette Lifestyle Media), and representing Lancia Marco Tencone (Style manager), Paolo Buffardi (product manager), Andrea Pallard (Delta product manager), Sergio Munaò (events manager).
The prizes, designed and produced by the Turin company Foglizzo - a leader in the vintage car restoration leather sector - were received by the five well-known Italian yacht designers who had this to say about their work:
Luca Brenta - who works with the shipbuilders Nautor, Maxi Dolphin - “I simplified the volumes, removing elements to understand where I wanted the guidelines to be”.
Luca Dini – who worked with the shipbuilders CBI Navy, Tecnomar, CNL (Cantieri Navali Lavagna) and AMY (Admiral Mariotti Yacht) - “Our reworking makes the car look like a real open-topped model”.
Carlo Galeazzi - proprietor of the studio of the same name was responsible for designing the interiors of the entire Azimut motoryacht range - “Two alternatives emerged. One very nautical, the other more sporty”.
Francesco Paszkowski - who now also works with the new Sanlorenzo megayacht line - “A project with continuity and marine references re-imagined for the car”.
Marco Biaggi and Filippo Solvetti - young and talented designers - have produced a series of accessories for the Delta, including a luggage set, and explain “We've tried to recreate a typical boat-like flexibility in its interior”.
Cross-fertilisation between different sectors, and yachting in particular, has always been a trademark of Lancia, the Italian brand whose indisputable values include evolution in design, along with style and elegance. This marriage between the world of cars and yachting is reported by Yacht Design, the magazine that has become a benchmark within the nautical design sector.
