A word apart must be spent on the Lince armoured car, or armoured reconnaissance vehicle, a chassis built on commission to the Italian War Ministry on which an armoured body was fitted.
Approximately 500 units were made from 1943 to 1945. The Lince was equipped with the 19° V8 engine of the Lancia Astura modified to improve torque delivery at low rpm.
Specs included 2617 cc of displacement, 60 HP of power, a top speed of 85 km/h and a range of 350 km. It was provided with four driving and steering wheels for easier manoeuvring. It weighed over three tons in under arms and was topped by a 8 mm machine gun.
The solutions adopted for the gearbox, suspensions and transmission were copied from the armoured British Daimler Scout Car (the "Dingo"), several of which were seized in Africa. The armoured body was made by Ansaldo.
